Miyetti Allah chairman mourning after brutal Enugu killings

The Miyetti Allah chairman in the South-East region is currently mourning the tragic murder of his two young sons following a brutal midnight raid. Gunmen completely destroyed a nomadic settlements camp in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu on Saturday, July 25, 2026. This sudden attack instantly heightened regional security fears.

Local herders reported that the unidentified assailants invaded the sleeping settlement under the cover of absolute darkness and opened fire indiscriminately on the defenseless occupants. The heavy gunfire resulted in the immediate death of the two teenage victims before family members could safely coordinate an escape route into the nearby bushes.

The Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, expressed immense grief while addressing media executives regarding the targeted violence. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims as their sudden loss remains a massive collective tragedy for our entire association,” Siddiki told our correspondent during a brief telephone conversation. Consequently, pastoral leaders across the zone are urgently demanding a comprehensive security review to shield vulnerable rural outposts from future incursions.

The tragic incident also resulted in the slaughter of about 40 valuable cattle that were closely penned within the perimeter of the agricultural camp during the midnight raid. This severe economic blow aggravates ongoing tensions between migratory pastoralists and local farming populations over access to fertile land resources within Ezeagu.

The Enugu Police Command quickly deployed tactical units to restore complete public order and prevent potential reprisal attacks across the surrounding border communities. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that specialized homicide detectives have launched a forensic investigation into the deadly encounter.

Furthermore, the state command has reinforced regular security surveillance along major migration corridors to guarantee the safety of all law-abiding residents.

    • Immediate tracking and prosecution of the armed perpetrators by federal law enforcement agencies.
    • Prompt deployment of joint military and police checkpoints near vulnerable forest border lines.
    • Enhanced inter-communal dialogue frameworks to foster long-term peaceful coexistence among diverse ethnic groups.
    • Direct intervention by the state government to assist displaced herding families with basic emergency relief materials.

The leadership of the cattle breeders association emphasized that the community remains fully committed to collaborating with local authorities rather than resorting to self-help options. They clarified that the association strictly avoids assigning blanket blame to host communities since criminal elements operate independently of ethnic affiliations.

“We have a solid duty to report our ordeals and losses to the government, being the institution we absolutely rely upon to address such acts.”

The Enugu Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, scheduled a high-level security meeting with various agricultural stakeholders in the state capital next Monday to defuse rising communal anxieties. Meanwhile, local community vigilante groups are tightening control checks around major entry routes into the Imezi-Owa forest axis to intercept suspicious movements.

The final outcome of these combined administrative measures will determine if the state can permanently suppress rural banditry ahead of the dry harvest season. Will the federal security apparatus successfully dismantle these rising networks of rural violence before they destabilize the fragile peace of the entire southeastern region?
