President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 27 major road projects worth over N3.9 trillion across 15 states. The approvals cover critical infrastructure in Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states.
The move is seen as a major push to improve connectivity, ease transportation and boost economic activities in different parts of the country.
Tinubu Gives Nod to Massive Road Infrastructure Projects
The approvals were disclosed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. They include new constructions, dualisations, rehabilitations and flyovers aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges.
One of the biggest projects is the re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to Aliko Dangote at a cost of N1.8 trillion. Other significant projects include the dualisation of Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road at N276 billion and the reconstruction of Iseyin-Eruwa-Agbesi Road in Oyo and Kwara states at N265 billion.
Several projects target roads in Oyo State, including the Idi-Araba-Ayede-Olodo Road, Igbeti Road, Igbeti-Soro-Kishi Road and the Badeku-Jaiye Road. Kwara State also features prominently with multiple interventions around Ilorin.
Key Projects Approved by President Tinubu
Here are some of the major roads approved:
- N217 billion for the dualisation of old alignment Ijaye to FGC to Ilorin Road with a spur to Akinmorin.
- N116 billion for the 21km Abakaliki-Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State.
- N110 billion for the Ogbomoso-Oko-Illupu Road in Oyo and Osun states.
- N104 billion for the rehabilitation of sections of the Ilorin-Omorin-Ebe-Kabba-Obajana Road in Kwara and Kogi states.
- N98 billion for the construction of 30km Idi-Araba-Ayede-Olodo Road in Oyo State.
- N86 billion for the reconstruction of Enugu-Abakaliki Road with a flyover.
- N83 billion for the Jimeta-Mayo Belwa Road project in Adamawa State.
- N34 billion for the 18km Ikere-Ekiti-Ijare Road in Ekiti and Ondo states.
- N15.7 billion for the construction of Pacific Road linking Igbe Laara to Ikorodu in Lagos State.
The approvals also include flyovers, bridges and the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with instructions to begin reconstruction of failed sections on the Ibadan axis using concrete.
Progress on Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway
Minister Umahi further revealed that the first 118km section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed. Work on the remaining 164km section is expected to finish by November.
The projects are expected to create jobs, reduce travel time and support agricultural and commercial activities in the benefiting states.
