Uyo, — The Office of the Political Adviser to the Akwa Ibom State Governor has relieved Mr. Osborne Ubong Okon (also known as Osborne Ubong Snr on social media) of his appointment as Media Aide with immediate effect, citing “actions bordering on disloyalty.”
In a formal press release dated today and signed by Prince Godwin Ntuk Udeh, Ph.D., Political Adviser to Governor Pastor Umo Eno, the government stated that the decision was taken to keep the office “purified.”
The letter, with reference number POL/GO/ADV.2/0041, reads in part: “Following actions bordering on disloyalty and considering the necessity to always keep the Office of the Political Adviser purified, it has become compelling that you, Mr. Osborne Ubong Okon be and is hereby relieved of your engagement as a Media Aide to the Political Adviser to His Excellency the Governor, with immediate effect and from today 2nd June 2026.”
The sacking comes amid ongoing political realignments in Akwa Ibom, where Prince Udeh has allegedly in recent months publicly spoken about shifting away from “blind loyalty” to the PDP and embracing the APC, while affirming support for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr. Okon, who has been active in political discourse on Facebook under the name Osborne Ubong Snr, had no immediate public reaction to the development. The incident has already sparked discussions online about loyalty, party politics, and the expectations placed on political appointees in Nigeria to blindly follow their leaders with question.
