Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not promise Nigerians miracles but rather “Renewed Hope” under the current administration.
He made the statement while addressing recent criticisms of the government’s performance.
Speaking earlier today, Akpabio noted that the APC campaigned on the platform of renewed hope and not on the promise of instant solutions to all of Nigeria’s challenges.
He emphasized that the party has remained focused on delivering on its promises despite the difficult economic conditions inherited by the administration.
The Senate President’s comments come amid growing public debate about the pace of economic recovery and the implementation of reforms under President Bola Tinubu.
Akpabio’s remarks appear to be a response to those who feel the government has not moved fast enough in addressing hardship and delivering visible improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
He stressed that nation-building is a gradual process and that the APC-led government is laying the foundation for long-term stability and growth rather than seeking short-term popularity.
The statement has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some have agreed that realistic expectations are important, others have argued that the government must do more to ease the current economic difficulties facing many households.
Critics have insisted that the “Renewed Hope” slogan must translate into tangible improvements in security, power supply, cost of living, and job creation.
Supporters of the administration have welcomed Akpabio’s clarification, describing it as a honest assessment of the challenges and the government’s determination to stay the course on reforms.
They argue that some of the tough decisions taken so far, though painful in the short term, are necessary for sustainable economic recovery.
