The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. (Dr) Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, has hosted the Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Mr. Ambroise Fayolle, and the Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, Mr. Gautier Mignot.
The high-level meeting was held at the Ministry in Abuja.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to drive development finance that aligns with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria Agenda 2050, and the upcoming National Development Plan (2026–2030).
The EIB’s current €1.2 billion portfolio in Nigeria was described as a strong vote of confidence in the country’s economic reforms and growth potential.
The discussions centred on how the European Investment Bank can further support Nigeria’s economic transformation through strategic investments in key sectors.
Dr. Doris Anite reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with global partners like the EIB to unlock sustainable growth and prosperity for Nigerians.
She noted that such partnerships are critical to attracting long-term development finance that can support infrastructure, private sector development, and job creation.
The EIB Vice President and the EU Delegation Head expressed continued support for Nigeria’s development priorities and economic reform efforts.
The meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts to deepen economic cooperation between Nigeria and the European Union. The EIB has been a key development partner, providing funding for projects that promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Officials say the engagement will help identify new areas of collaboration that can accelerate Nigeria’s economic diversification and resilience.
The meeting has been welcomed by many who see it as a positive step in attracting international development finance at a time when Nigeria is implementing major economic reforms.
Stakeholders have stressed the need for transparency and effective utilisation of such funds to ensure they translate into tangible improvements in infrastructure, job creation, and living standards.
