Alex Otti Commissions 14 Roads in Aba, Flags Off Ring Road

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has commissioned 14 newly completed road projects in Aba, while also flagging off the first phase of the Aba Ring Road. The developments, which took place yesterday, form part of ongoing efforts to transform the commercial city and boost economic activities across the state.

The projects cut across Osisioma, Aba North, and Aba South Local Government Areas. They are expected to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and support industrial growth in Aba, long regarded as the commercial nerve centre of the South East.

    14 Roads Commissioned Across Aba

The commissioned roads include Aro Amano–Eke Aro Road, Adaelu Road, Geometric Road, Afule Road, Assemblies of God Church Road, Nwogu Ajagba Street, Nwala Street, Sacred Heart Street, Elizabeth Avenue, Nigerian Brewery Ring Road, Etche Road, Mosque Road, Crystal Park Road, and Kingdom Hall Street.

Governor Otti highlighted the transformation of some of these roads. He noted that Geometric Road, which was in poor condition not long ago, has now become a corridor lined with industries and opportunities. Afule Road, constructed as a strategic bypass, is expected to ease pressure on the busy Aba–Owerri Road. Adaelu Road was cited as an example of the speed and efficiency of the project delivery teams.

Aba Ring Road Project Flagged Off

In addition to the commissioned roads, the governor flagged off the first phase of the Aba Ring Road, a 4.9-kilometre project being executed under the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA). The bypass is designed to decongest the Aba metropolis, improve access to neighbouring states such as Akwa Ibom and Cross River, and support broader urban renewal and economic expansion.

Officials said all the projects were executed with attention to quality, including proper drainage, street lighting, and durable construction standards.

    Infrastructure Drive and Economic Impact

The commissioning comes as Abia State marks three years of the current administration. Governor Otti described the projects as clear evidence of steady progress and a commitment to opening new pathways to prosperity for the people.

Aba has long suffered from poor road infrastructure that hampered movement of goods and people. The new roads and the upcoming Ring Road are expected to ease daily commuting, support traders and manufacturers, and attract more investment into the city.

Residents and business operators in the affected areas have welcomed the developments, noting visible improvements in some locations that were previously difficult to access, especially during the rainy season.

The state government has indicated that more infrastructure projects will be delivered in the coming period as part of efforts to reposition Abia for sustainable growth.
