Abia State has launched its Farmers’ Input Support Programme, providing improved agricultural inputs to over 17,000 farmers across the state.
The initiative is aimed at boosting food production, increasing yields, and strengthening the agricultural sector as a major driver of economic growth.
The programme reflects Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to positioning agriculture as a key pillar of Abia State’s economy. It is designed to support farmers with essential inputs that will help improve productivity and enhance food security in the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, is overseeing the implementation of the programme. His ministry has been actively championing policies and interventions that directly support farmers and agricultural development.
The distribution of improved agricultural inputs is expected to have a direct positive impact on smallholder farmers, many of whom have long struggled with access to quality seeds, fertilisers, and other essential farming materials.
By empowering thousands of farmers, the state government hopes to increase agricultural output, create more jobs in the sector, and reduce dependence on food imports.
The launch of the programme has been welcomed by many residents and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. Supporters have praised the administration for focusing on practical interventions that directly benefit farmers and rural communities.
The initiative is being viewed as part of Governor Otti’s broader strategy to diversify the state’s economy and create sustainable opportunities for the people of Abia.
