The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), through its Bunker Bay Deck in Umuahia, has visited the Uzuakoli Leprosy Colony in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The visit was carried out under the association’s #NASCARES humanitarian initiative.
During the visit, members of the association donated food items, clothing, footwear, toiletries, and routine drugs to the inmates of the colony. They also spent time with the residents, offering words of encouragement and moral support.
The Pyrates Confraternity said the gesture was aimed at showing care and solidarity with the inmates as they continue their journey to recovery.
Staff of the Uzuakoli Leprosy Colony expressed appreciation for the visit and the donations, describing it as a timely intervention that would help ease the challenges faced by the residents.
The National Association of Seadogs has a long history of carrying out charitable and humanitarian programmes across Nigeria. The #NASCARES initiative is one of the platforms through which the association extends support to vulnerable groups and communities in need.
The visit to Uzuakoli is part of the association’s continued efforts to promote humanistic ideals and give back to society, especially to those often forgotten or marginalised.
Residents and staff of the colony welcomed the support, noting that such visits help boost the morale of the inmates and remind them that they are not alone.
The Pyrates Confraternity has pledged to continue supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of vulnerable populations across the country.
