Rufai Oseni Warns on Peter Obi NDC Court Case Timing

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has raised fresh concerns about the Peter Obi NDC court case. Speaking on the station’s Morning Show on Monday, he described what he called a grand attempt to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. Oseni drew attention to the timing of events around the Nigeria Democratic Congress. He noted that Peter Obi officially joined the party on May 3 this year, while a suit challenging its registration was filed just two days later on May 5 by what he called a faceless group. The remarks have got many Nigerians talking about the bigger picture in the race for 2027.

The NDC had earlier won a court order directing INEC to register it as a political party. However, a recent ruling at the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside that judgment. The decision considered claims by another group over issues like the party’s logo. This latest legal twist has left the NDC’s status uncertain at a time when opposition figures are trying to build stronger platforms for the next elections.

Oseni did not hold back in his analysis. He said the sequence looked too neat to be coincidence. “Peter Obi went to the NDC on the 3rd of May, that case was filed on the 5th of May in court,” he noted on air. He linked it to similar moves against other opposition parties and warned that more challenges could still come. Oseni also urged INEC to quickly issue the necessary codes so registered parties can complete their processes without further hitches.

The developments around the NDC have added to the tension in the political space. With the 2027 polls approaching fast, any delay in party registration or ballot access could shape who gets to contest. Oseni’s comments have resonated with those who already suspect coordinated efforts to limit strong opposition voices. For now, the NDC and its backers are expected to fight the ruling through the courts while pushing for a level playing field.
