The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, held a high-level meeting with officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
The meeting focused on the proposed domestication of a Specialized Training Programme on Counter-Terrorism Investigation at the Nigeria Police Academy.
The engagement centred on advancing the academic integration and institutional adoption of the counter-terrorism training programme. It is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in counter-terrorism investigation and enhancing law enforcement education in the country.

Senior police officers, including AIG Patrick Atayero and AIG Uche Ifeanyi Henry, were present at the meeting.
The proposed programme seeks to develop sustainable counter-terrorism education and training frameworks within the Police Academy. It is expected to improve specialized investigative skills among police personnel and strengthen institutional collaboration between the police, academic bodies, and international partners.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to build local capacity in tackling terrorism and related security threats through structured training and academic programmes.
The meeting underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enhancing its counter-terrorism capabilities through strategic partnerships. Officials described the collaboration with NUC and UNOCT as a significant step towards professionalising counter-terrorism investigation in Nigeria.
The Police Academy is expected to play a central role in implementing the programme once it is fully domesticated.
